FAQ

Please see the following list of our most frequently asked questions. If you have a question that doesn't appear here, please send an email to thegeek@speechgeek.com

What is forensics?
To put it simply, forensics is competitive speech and debate.  Needless to say, if you’re not a Speech Geek, then you’re first guess was something related to the tv show C.S.I.  That’s okay, because if I had a nickel for every time someone asked me if forensics has something to do with dead bodies, let’s just say I’d have a lot of nickels.

To give you a more textbook example of the forensic world, Don Faules, Richard Rieke, and Jach Rhodes book Directing Forensics describes the activity:

Forensics is an educational activity primarily concerned with using an argumentative perspective in examining problems and communicating with people…Forensics activities, including debate and individual events (public address and oral interpretation of literature) , are laboratories for helping students to understand and communicate various forms of arguments more effectively in a variety of contexts with a variety of audiences.

Are your scripts legal for performance in state leagues, NFL, and CFL?
SpeechGeek is published under the International Serial Standard Number 1545-9209, thus considered “published” by the National Forensic League, Catholic Forensic League, and state organizations. Any questions concerning the company can be sent to the publisher.  We are pleased to announce that all SpeechGeek issues now include ISBN numbers.  A full listing of issues and associated ISBNs are available at the following link.

Are your scripts downloadable?
SpeechGeek is proud to offer digital download and email subscriptions for interp scripts and coaching resources.  Download only files are priced lower thanks to the elimination of production costs and processing.  Printed orders include the downloadable version of files at no extra cost.

How do I download products?
Once an order has been placed, customers will receive an email with the subject line “Downloads for SpeechGeek Market Order ####”.  Please ensure your email client will accept messages from notifications@fetchapp.com.  Many school email accounts are highly sensitive to messages with links.  If you do not receive your download email within an hour after purchase, please send an email to market@speechgeek.com.  Download pages are active for two months or fifteen downloads, whichever comes first.

What forms of payment do you accept?
For online orders, we accept payment via major credit cards and PayPal.  Customers wishing to pay for purchases via check or school purchase order, should use the following instructions.

How long does it take for an order to arrive?
Orders are typically processed within two weeks.  All SpeechGeek orders are mailed via USPS with options for Parcel/First Class, Priority Mail, and Express Mail.  Express Orders are sent as soon as possible, generally within 24 hours of purchase.  Express shipment does not guarantee overnight delivery.

What if I just want one script?
At this time, scripts are only available as part of the issue in which they appear.  SpeechGeek is committed to providing the lowest possible prices on interp scripts for budget-minded coaches and competitors.  Scripts ordered as part of our “Complete Geek” package cost less than two dollars each.

Are the judges ready?
Just…one…more…minute.

Do you accept submissions for publication?
SpeechGeek is always on the lookout for fresh scripts from young and old, new and experienced authors.  SpeechGeek publishes prose interpretation, poetry interpretation, duo interpretation, dramatic interpretation, and humorous interpretation scripts.  Please keep the standard ten minute time limits in mind when editing your work.

SpeechGeek publishes literature in a variety of genres serving the needs of students and educators both in and out of the high school forensics community.  Each piece submitted to the editor will proceed through a review process by our editorial team to ensure the work is of quality, of interest to our audiences, and suitable for performance.  No submission is guaranteed publication.

Individuals interested in submitting a script for publication should send an email to thegeek@speechgeek.com.  Please include either a .rtf or .doc version of the script in your message.  Our editorial board reviews scripts on a rotating basis.  Authors are typically notified within a month of submission regarding their status.  If the author’s work is selected for publication, he or she will be mailed a copy of our Author Agreement for review and completion.  Authors are compensated for their work per the terms of the Agreement.

I’ve got a great idea for a button/shirt.  You wanna hear it?
Sure.  We’re always on the lookout for clever slogans and images for our t-shirts and buttons.  Not only will you receive some free merch if we use your idea, we’ll also give you $25.

I’m double entered.  May I please go to my next round?
Of course you may.  Best of luck.
