About
Well hello there.
Chances are – you’ve stumbled upon this page in one of two ways:
1. You know me. At some point in the course of our interactions I not-so-subtly suggested you stop by, and whether by sheer boredom, mild interest or simple caving to my will…you decided to visit. I thank you for that.
2. You don’t know me. By circumstance – a search engine or series of hyperlinks have led you here. You don’t really know what an informavore is – per se. All you know is that you’ve got time to kill before going back to work, researching your paper that’s coming up or going to bed so you’ve decided to wade through the cyber flotsam and jetsam we call the internet. If that is the case – then howdy.
Either way – I feel that it’s only fair to inform you of a few things.
I love the internet. Not in that lonely way that the internet can substitute for human interaction – not that I’m judging. Nor in that lethargic “Why leave the house when I have the internet?” way that breeds oh-so-many a shut in, again – no judgment. Not even in that left-brained techno-savvy computer programmer slash web-designer sort of way. I wish. No – I love the internet for the very reason that sweet, gentle technorati birthed it into existence so many years ago.
I love new information. I do. It doesn’t even have to be on a specific subject. I love it all. I like finding websites, articles, games, recipes, blogs and artists and collecting them to share with others. I love open discussion on a variety of things – even if I don’t agree with what anyone is saying. I have a feverish appreciation for how deliciously absurd of a culture the internet community has created. If I sound a bit fetishistic – forgive me – I’m an academic.
So while other sites are organized by the nature of what they seek to publish online: entertainment, research, news, technology, politics, gossip and such – this one is a bit different. This is simply a place where I can link and share the nuggets of information I find interesting. And likewise – if you find something interesting – you’re more than welcome to return the favor. I would hope that informavores stick together and share links like water cooler gossip.
In the spirit of information sharing – here is the Atlantic article that got me to thinking about the internet, how we process information and if there isn’t a way to harness its powers for the best.
Surf thee well, fellow internet patrons.
