A Post I Never Got Around To Posting…

…more on that in a bit. This is from Tuesday, August 24th.

Sunday afternoon, I noticed my arm started breaking out. At first I wondered if the PUPPP rash that was supposed to end with the pregnancy had reared its ugly little head again. After all – it was heavily concentrated on the inside of the elbow where Elliott rests his head.

“Great. I’m still allergic to this child after two weeks of chaos,” I thought. “Juuuust great.”

But after I took a shower that afternoon…things got worse.

That’s when I noticed the rash was all over my legs, torso, neck and face. PUPPP doesn’t spread beyond the abdomen, arms and thighs. This had the potential to be something new. Luckily I didn’t have a fever, cough or vomiting so that ruled out more terrifying possibilities. Still, I just started ‘boo-hooing’ because…REALLY?!?…when would this all end? And on the weekend?! Hello Insult, this is my friend Injury. After consulting with my mom and Corey, I call the on-call OBGYN, given everything that had happened- they would be more informed about my situation. The on-call doctor ordered me a steroid and told me to stop taking my antibiotic, Amoxicillin, and to see my OB on Monday (yesterday).

I visit my doctor, show her the rash on my body and the pre-steroid photos I took. I asked if it could be PUPPP. “Oh no,” she said, “this looks like a drug reaction.”

“What does that mean?” I say.

“It means you’re allergic to penicillin.”

Well FAN-tastic.
